Who Are the C:F Judges?

Challenge:Future Competition stands at the heart of all think tank’s activities. In this radically inclusive, open innovation, sustainability-focused competition, youth teams compete to solve unique global challenges. Every solution submitted by the competing teams is evaluated through a combination of community votes and expert judges’ grades. The judges perform an important task of analyzing, evaluating, and giving targeted feedback to each and every solution. Challenge:Future, as an initiative promoting innovation, ideation, and sustainability, would like to provide fair, balanced, and professional evaluation.

Expert judges are invited and nominated from diverse fields to facilitate fair and informed decision to progress a solution to the next phase of the competition. Typically over 100 judges from various countries, institutions, and organizations, age groups, gender and fields of expertise take part in the Challenge:Future Competition.

To choose the Grand Prize Winners, a special panel of judges will be invited to the Summit 2012 to hear the presentations of the Contenders live and select the best proposal. This panel of judges consists of business leaders, futurists, researchers, as well as youth judges from the C:F Community.

Sema Basol is a global marketing and public relations executive with over 25 years of experience both in the US and Turkey. She has worked with multi-billion dollar corporations like Mattel Inc. and Koc Holding as well as non-profit educational institutions. At Mattel Inc., as Director of Consumer Products, she built Mattel brands into new businesses that generated annual retail sales of over half billion dollars in international markets. As Executive Director of a US learning program connecting Turkish and American educators and their students in partnership with NASA and US school districts.

Sema is the founder of Turkish Women's Initiative (TWI). TWI promotes the economic and social prosperity of Turkey by supporting the advancement of Turkish girls and women. She is also actively involved in Silicon Valley based programs targeted at empowering girls and women. Born and raised in Turkey, she has lived in the U.S. most of her life and brings a unique cross-cultural perspective.

Sema Basol served as a judge in the first round and Semi-Finals of the C:F 2009-2010 competition.

Aik Heng Yap

Aik majored in Chemistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and is concurrently completing a second degree with the School of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University in Japan. As a student and scholar, he is interested in new ways of approaching problems and lessons that we can learn from other cultures. He also believes that small changes can go a long way and he points out the example of nudges.org as an inspiration.

Aik Heng Yap served as a youth judge representing the voice of the C:F community at the finalist judging panel during the C:F Summit 2010.

Michael Holm Johansen

Michael Holm Johansen joined The Coca-Cola Company in 1997 as Country Manager for Denmark. Since 2007, Michael serves as Group Business Unit President, Central and Southern Europe in 2007, incorporating 23 countries.

Before joining the Company, Michael Holm Johansen worked for four years as division director with Schulstad Group, Denmark’s largest bakery group. Prior to this assignment, he was general manager with Informationsteknik, Scandinavia’s largest audio-visual group from 1989 to 1993. He started his career with Procter & Gamble in 1982, based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Michael Holm Johansen holds a BSc in Economics from the Copenhagen School of Business Administration and Economics and an MBA in Marketing from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Michael served in the finalist judging panel at the C:F Summit 2010.
